English courses are available for all types of students. There are a few key points to bear in mind when choosing the right English course for you.
Choosing the right course will help you get the most out of the time you invest.
Choosing the right French course
What should I look out for when choosing a French course?
With so many French language courses on offer, here are a few key points to bear in mind when making your choice:
- The frequency of lessons: learning French requires frequency to establish new skills. Less than one lesson a week will make it very difficult to progress.
- Timetable: make sure you choose a timetable that fits in with your professional and family life. If you have a lot of trouble keeping to the timetable, you’ll have a hard time keeping up with the course.
- Teachers and teaching staff: an experienced, well-trained teacher is essential. We have to be careful with all these courses given by improvised teachers.
- Level: always choose a course adapted to my level of French (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2).
- The group: opt for a group of 4 to 8 people maximum, and make sure the levels are evenly matched.
- The school: choose an experienced school that specialises in language teaching. The school’s recognition by academic institutions and international language teaching associations are further guarantees of the effectiveness of our methods.
- Specificity: the course must be able to adapt to my needs and the way I’ll be using the language.
- Practice: opt for courses where there are plenty of opportunities to speak. It’s the secret to daring to speak French!
- Miracles: avoid courses that promise to teach you fluent French in just a few hours. If it’s too good to believe, don’t! These false promises will waste your time, your motivation and sometimes even your money.
Types of French courses
What types of courses are available?
There’s a huge variety of French courses to choose from. Self-study courses are available in many formats. This often involves access to theory, French grammar exercises and vocabulary.
Self-study is useful for practicing on your own and being exposed to a language, but has its limits when it comes to practicing the language orally and daring to speak. Accompaniment by a teacher remains unavoidable.
Tutor-led courses can be adapted to a wide range of situations:
- The age of the students: there are courses for adults as well as more specialized courses for children and teenagers.
- Timetables: daytime, evening or weekend courses to fit in with your busy working life.
- Intensity: the same course module can be given very intensively over 1 or 2 weeks, with classes every day, or more diffusely over 1 or 2 sessions a week for 10 weeks or a term.
- Specialty: each course generally corresponds to a level (beginner, advanced, etc…) but can also focus on specific topics such as job interviews, exam preparation, etc…
- The place: courses are traditionally held in a language school. They are also available in Visio via virtual classrooms. No more need to travel to take my course.
- The group: you can easily take classes in groups of the same level, and at certain times opt for one-to-one lessons to work on specific points with a teacher dedicated entirely to my needs.
